There are many benefits in joining our trainee programme, but we would like to share a perspective from Jezaia van der Watt who is in his 2nd year of the Trainee Programme as he talks about one of the most important and exciting benefits for him in being a part of the programme Is combining his passions with his day to day working life.
“Prior to joining Aspida I was struggling to find a role locally that could utilise my engineering skills. Having completed my secondary education, I found myself taking part-time roles in the retail sector. The Trainee Programme at Aspida has empowered me to apply my engineering background and particularly my interest in AI and bringing automation to the work place. Part of my role is to be immersed in the rapidly changing world of AI and related topics. I get to research new technology, and learn how to use software such as our cutting edge GRC software Resolver, which pushes the boundaries of the industries’ standard for compliance and risk management. I find joy in knowing, that the successful projects I complete, will end up saving people’s time, making many of their work processes easier (And therefore my productivity increases “their” productivity).”
Meet Blaine and Dan – Our first graduates

Blaine McDaid
The trainee programme has been a wonderful opportunity, allowing me to gain my advanced certificate and diploma with the International Compliance Association as well as personal development within the role. It has been a great kick start for my career progression and I am excited to share my experience and knowledge with our future trainees.

Daniel Radford
The trainee programme has given me a great base for my career, including exposure to multiple sectors and various aspects of risk and compliance. I’m looking forward to the coming years as I continue my own development and assist the newer trainees joining the business
Bee McDaid and Dan Radford were the initial members of Aspida’s Advisory Trainee Programme in 2019, designed to ensure that the future workforce of our governance, risk and compliance advisory businesses had the necessary skills and aptitude to maximise the benefits of our technology platform and added value people overlay.
Peter Mills, Joint Chair, explains “shortages of compliance and risk experienced individuals have been a challenge for some time, we identified this and wanted to invest in our future leaders. Our culture is such that this is as much about helping the next generation as it is about meeting our business needs and those of our clients”.
Blaine says “The trainee programme has been a wonderful opportunity, allowing me to gain my advanced certificate and diploma with the International Compliance Association as well as personal development within the role. It has been a great kick start for my career progression and I am excited to share my experience and knowledge with our future trainees.”
Dan adds “The trainee programme has given me a great base for my career, including exposure to multiple sectors and various aspects of risk and compliance. I’m looking forward to the coming years as I continue my own development and assist the newer trainees joining the business.”
Trainee Spotlight
Eve Bott - 3rd Year Trainee

I joined Aspida’s trainee programme after leaving school in 2020 as an opportunity to continue to grow and develop while remaining on Guernsey. I was motivated by the opportunity to work in a range of areas in the industry alongside gaining experience from completing professional courses such as the ICA’s Advance Certificate in Regulatory Compliance and Diploma in Governance Risk and Compliance.
My favourite part of the programme is the variety the job brings, making every week slightly different. This includes going on external visits to clients to complete work or assist in meetings, undertaking different projects such as drafting policies, completing Internal Audits or reviewing client manuals, attending events and conferences, and maintaining Compliance Monitoring Programmes.
Being trusted to perform these tasks with a level of independence has massively increased my confidence and provides a real sense of achievement. I have also grown to love the trainee community that the programme creates, enabling a feeling of belonging and drive to go into the office.
